We belong to another parish but often frequent the 6pm Mass at Holy Spirit. Father Don is one of the most caring, genuine priests I have ever encountered. It is very clear and apparent Father Don cares and enjoys his life calling.
The night before Christmas last year my family needed to go to confession before Christmas Mass. We called all the Catholic churches in Rochester. We were told over and over again that confessions were over and the churches that did not answer we left messages for a priest to call us back for a possible appointment for confession. Father Don was the only priest who called us back to invite us to come in for a confession. I will never forget the genuineness of Father Don and truthfully I will never forget the fact the other priests we left messages for never even called us back. (Including our parish priest)
So if you are looking for a Mass to attend while in Rochester do not miss the opportunity to experience Mass with a great priest, a caring congregation in a beautiful sitting high up on the hill overlooking the beautiful Southeast Minnesota landscape! PEACE!!

I went to this church for a few times when I first moved to Rochester. I didn't think the people there were friendly at all. If you're not married with children, one doesn't get a welcoming feeling here at all. Everyone was so involved with their children and their other friends. It really felt like one big clique.

Fr. Tom Loomis is superb! He is real with you in his stories and experiences. Can sometimes drag on, but then again, this is a Catholic church. His life story is a neat one. He realized he ought to become a preist one summer when his car radio wouldn't work and had no choice but to listen to the sound of silence. It was then he became aware of the calling, and has since been a very humbly bumbly known preist.
The arrangement/layout of the church is, well, you either love it or hate it. It does not have a tabernacle, nor an actual crucifix inside the church itself, but the music is FANTASTIC. They have a white grand piano that has a 9/11 story worth hearing. Some people call this church "the circle church" because of how the alter is in the middle with the chairs surrounding it in the shape of a circle. Also there are no kneelers, THANK GOD!
If you're Catholic, or just Christian, this is definitely a place of welcoming people who smile, laugh, and who are REAL Christian folk.

Outstanding music blends so well with the Mass and is so uplifting! Strong emphasis on Social Justice.

Faith formation classes (Fire) are unorganized. The children spend much of their time shuffling from one room to the next. As a parent it is difficult to keep track of what room to bring your child to and what their homework is.
On the upside mass is very inviting to families with young children. If your child cries out during mass you will be among others. It is nice to feel invited and not shuned for bring your children to church.Added July 26, 2016 by A Google User
